Why Isn’t My Blog Post Getting More Action?

When someone asks me why they aren’t getting more traction from their blog posts, I ask them where they’ve promoted it. The typical answer is “I hit publish on my blog. Is there more?” And my response to that question would be …

social media

Use a  Marketing Support Specialist to schedule your blog posts and promote them via your social media channels!

Let’s back up a bit. My post last week was about why you should be using a Marketing Support Specialist to schedule and manage your social media. Well, blogging is an important part of social media. Remember, it’s all about visibility. If you’re not blogging on a consistent basis, you should be – but I digress, that’s another topic altogether. If you ARE blogging on a consistent basis, but are wondering why your posts aren’t getting more action, here ya go!

Your job’s not done once you hit publish on that new blog post (or when you hit the schedule button to publish later). It’s just beginning. Now it’s time to blast that baby out on your social media platforms to make sure it gets the most traction it can. You want as many eyes as possible on your content so you can drive them back to your website for more.

Don't just hit publish. Promote your blog posts on your social media channels for more traction!Click to Tweet

Picture this … you write a fabulous blog post (If the writing part is what’s stopping you, let us know. We have a crackerjack copywriter on the team who can make that happen for you!). Then, you send the copy to your Marketing Support Specialist and he/she takes it from there. Before you know it, your new post is up on your website, bright and shiny. Then over the next week or so it’s being promoted on Facebook, then Twitter, then Instagram and maybe even Pinterest. Then you see it as a long post on LinkedIn, Medium, and maybe even Tumblerr. Imagine how many eyes are on that one blog post now, without you having to do anything other than write it.

social mediaWhile there are so many other things your Marketing Support Specialist could be doing for you on the social media front, this is one simple strategy they could start handling for you that will get your  content out in front of your target market, your ideal client, your audience.

Sure, you can do this yourself. But do you really have time? And if you don’t have time, will it actually get done? Probably not.

So stop stalling. Get those blog posts out there and stop wondering why more people aren’t flocking to your website for more. If you’re not promoting your posts on your social media channels, people might not even know they are there!

This is one thing i struggle with – creating that schedule of posting more than just once with my blog. I learned a surprising thing in that my blog is getting a lot of views on Google+ so I decided to make sure I remembered to appear there as well.

I use my VA to pull sound bites from my content and it’s super helpful to have that done for me!

You aren’t the only one who struggles with this Kim. I think we all do. That’s why I keep an open list in Evernote for the different things I need to do for social media each day so I can share blog posts and the little sound bites (nuggets) and text/graphics across my different SM platforms each week. When I keep that list for what to do each day, I keep up with it and it really only takes me about 10-15 minutes each day. Maybe you could sit down with your VA and come up with a quick schedule for her to do that for you? It shouldn’t take her more than 15 minutes per day. Maybe even less.

It is amazing how many people think that they can’t put their blog on social media i fear others will see it too often. This is so not the case. Those that may see your blog may not be following you on social media. And those who follow you on Facebook may not be following you on Twitter. And Twitter pushes hundreds to hundred thousands of tweets per second. So, the chances of someone seeing your blog post twice is not going to happen. Those that follow you on Instagram may not follow you Facebook, or Twitter. The same goes for Linkedin…you get my drift! So, get a VA and get your stuff scheduled; your next client is waiting for you.

You are spot on about one of the reasons people dont promote their blog posts on Social Media. While some people may follow you across all of your social media platforms, many do not, so your audience will be different on each one. Plus, the lifetime of a Tweet is about 1-2 hours, Facebook is about 4 or 5 hours – each one depending on who and how many people you follow. And … just because someone sees your post once doesn’t mean they will read it then or even remember it. If you want to be visible, you have to make sure you’re posting your content in more than one place. Thanks for the plug to hire a VA too Karen 😉

Good advice Terry. Spread the word. Also, begin genuine blog commenting to build your friend network, so your friends promote you as you promote your posts, amplifying your reach.

Great advice Ryan … people just don’t get that you can’t just post something and expect everyone to see it. You’ve got to promote it, and you’re right! Genuine blog commenting is great to build your friend network!! Thanks 🙂
