Last week I talked about the power of “getting” testimonials in your marketing strategy. Today I’d like you to consider the power of “giving” testimonials.
You know when you provide a testimonial for a service provider or any other small business on their website, or when you provide testimonials for courses or events you’ve attended for someone to use on their sales page and in their marketing? Other people see those! In most cases, an active link to your website is included in the testimonial. But did you know that active URL gets indexed by the search engines and shows up on Google searches? It also shows up as backlinks, just like it does when you leave a comment on someone’s blog.
The same goes for recommendations you leave for others on LinkedIn. Others see those recommendations, and will often click on the link to see who you are and what you do.
That’s marketing! Maybe not what comes to mind when you first start thinking of the different kinds of things you can do to market your business, but it’s still marketing.
As I’ve said many, many times, marketing comes in many different shapes and sizes, and it doesn’t have to be difficult. It can be in your face marketing like ads and banners, sales pages or sponsoring events. It can be building relationships through social media and networking. Or it can be something as subtle as getting and giving testimonials and recommendations for others. It’s still marketing. When was the last time you provided a testimonial for someone? Or a recommendation for someone on LinkedIn? I’m not talking about the “great job” or “nice business” type of testimonials, though. I’m talking about real testimonials and recommendations that provide value and benefit to the receiver.
It doesn’t cost anything, nor does it take a lot of time. Leave a testimonial or recommendation for someone today and start taking advantage of another easy peasy way to market your business.
