Are you investing in the health of your business by choosing quality over cost when it comes to marketing services? Or are you assuming all marketing companies are the same, and it simply doesn’t matter?
There are times in life when you should watch your pennies, and times in when you should invest in quality. And when it comes to marketing services that will help improve the health of your business, you’re better off spending whatever your budget will allow, rather than going with the cheapest you can find.
I never lead potential clients to believe our marketing services are cheap, because they’re not. I’m priced as one would expect a service provider with my experience, skills and resources to be priced. However, because of our higher price tag, we do sometimes see clients drifting in and out, in search of someone who can do what we do, but for less money.Cost over quality. It may not always be your best option!
The thing is, these clients almost always come back. Why? Because they learn they won’t get the same level of service and quality with someone who charges bargain store prices. Not when it comes to marketing.
I understand that when you operate a business, you need to watch where you spend your money. However, I’ve also come to learn where I and can’t afford to go with a cheaper option. If you hire a cheap copywriter, you’ll most likely spend hours doing revisions. If you hire the cheapest bookkeeper, you’ll probably end up in a mess with your accountant. If you hire the cheapest web designer … well … don’t do that because it won’t end well!
When you’re looking to outsource marketing services for your business, you’ll get what you pay for. Meaning, you’ll get your money’s worth if you invest in experience and skill.
Before you go ahead and enter a professional working arrangement with someone who has the potential to bring money into your business, you need to decide if you want to go cheap and risk having things go wrong, or if you want to spend the money out of the gate and hire someone who comes recommended, but with a higher price tag.
If you decide to go cheap, there’s a possibility you won’t get the quality you’re looking for. That means you’ll waste tons of time fixing problems, looking for someone else to fix the problems, or always scrambling to find someone to fill in where so and so left off.
If, however, you choose your provider based on skill and quality of service, and invest in someone with higher rates and an excellent reputation, you’ll most likely be pleased with what you get in return. And if you partner with the best company you can afford, you’ll see a return on that investment in no time at all.
So, if you want to save some money on business expenses, do it by choosing cheaper flights, a less expensive card stock, or something else that won’t have a direct impact on the health of your business.
Do you have any stories to share about when you’ve partnered with a service based on a lower rate than someone else who was highly recommended but charged more? How did it turn out? Was the quality worth the lower cost? I’d love to hear your experiences, so share them in a comment below.
