I’m constantly being asked by clients, and seeing posts on Facebook, in Facebook groups and various other places where others are also asking, about the various graphic sizes used on social media. With so many options available, they want clarification regarding which size is best for each platform.
Wonder no more …
Here are the dimensions for the 6 most used graphics (at least by me) in social media.
Note: The Graphic images shown are approximately half their normal size so you can get an idea of the differences in size. And all of the dimensions are in pixels!
The main graphic in this post is 1,024 x 512. If you are using a responsive theme, it will adjust to the size of the post – making it a great choice for your main blog post graphic.
560 x 315 is great for your blog post’s featured image, and also works for LinkedIn Publisher post graphics if you don’t want to go to the trouble of having to create multiple graphics for your various social media platforms.
940 x 788 works for Facebook, but not much else. I rarely ever create this size graphic because Instagram works just as well since it renders 600 x 600!
700 x 400 is the recommended size for the main graphic for a LinkedIn Publisher post. Again, if you don’t want to create multiple graphics, the Blog Title size does the trick.
Instagram will upload a square image as large as 1,080 x 1,080, but will display no larger than 600 x 600. You can’t change it. Instagram now also allows for landscape (600 x 450) and portrait (480 x 600). Video sizes are a different story altogether.
Make sure you pick the right image size for each social media platform, for the best effect.Click To Tweet
And of course, there’s Pinterest. 735 x 1,102 is the preferred size for Pinterest. It get’s the best engagement and is shared the most.
Here are a couple of additional sizes I haven’t mentioned:
Tumblr images are 840 x 810
Facebook Note images are 1,200 x 445
Then there is the whole email and social media header issue … maybe we’ll cover those in another post 😉
Just to follow up and reiterate a few things about the different graphic sizes.
While the Blog Title graphic is 560 x 315, if you’re using a responsive theme on your blog, Twitter’s 1,024 x 512 is the most effective size to use for your main blog graphic.
If you want to save time by not having to make a gazillion different sizes for all of your different social media posts, the Blog Title graphic also works well for LinkedIn and Facebook.
Of course if you really want to make it simple, just use a graphic program like Canva to create all of your graphics. It’s just point and click for whatever size you want … no fuss, no muss. And they have you covered for just about any image size you can imagine!
