With so many Social Media platforms available today, updating and managing each one of them individually can really take up large chunks of your valuable time. There are, however, some really great tools out there that will help you manage and update all of these platforms easily – one of them being HootSuite!
One of the main benefits of using HootSuite is the ability to schedule your status updates. You can create your content for your social networks once a month (or on whatever schedule you choose), and then schedule them in HootSuite for a date and time you choose. With a paid account, you can even create a spreadsheet of status updates and upload all of them at one time. This HootSuite option is a bit quirky and may require a bit of patience in order to work successfully at first, but with practice, you’ll soon be adept at formatting your spreadsheet precisely to HootSuite specifications. This includes a date and time format, using a status update one time only, and no more than 40 updates.
HootSuite will allow you to see all of your networks on one dashboard. Even if you schedule your content once a month, you can log in as frequently as you like to socialize with your connections. Instead of logging into Twitter, networking, logging out then logging into Facebook, networking, logging out, etc. you log into HootSuite once and network on each of your social networks. An added benefit is that if you see information one of your connections shared on Twitter, you can easily share that information with your Facebook followers. For example, you see a Tweet you want to share – you click the “retweet” icon and HootSuite puts the content in the “Compose Message” window. Then you select the social networks on which you want the tweet to publish.
For a mere $5.99 USD per month (I’m sure your time is worth so much more than that!), you can manage an unlimited number of social networks, which is a huge benefit to Virtual Assistants or anyone who manages social media for their clients. You can add Facebook groups and pages, LinkedIn groups and Twitter lists. And if you have a Multi-VA team, you can even add one of your VAs as a team member!
If you have been a HootSuite user for a while, some new features may seem unavailable. However, we’ve found if you disconnect a social network, and then reconnect it, you will then be able to take advantage of the new feature. For example, if you connected your LinkedIn account before HootSuite added the feature to manage LinkedIn Groups. Just disconnect your LinkedIn account and reconnect it. Once reconnected you should be able to add your LinkedIn Groups.
