The holidays are behind us and it’s now time to look to the new year with hope and anticipation. The beauty of a brand new year is the feeling of fresh beginnings and the belief that anything is possible. That’s what we’re going to talk about today; getting you inspired and on track for 2013 with solid tips that can be incorporated into your business easily and effectively.
Here are our top 5 tips for business growth in 2013:
Review the previous year – Write down three things that went exceptionally well last year. Now, write down three things that didn’t go so well. Honestly evaluate the list. Of the things that went well, what can you do more of that will continue that trend? What changes can you make to the things that didn’t go well so you have a better outcome this year? You’ll be amazed how this one step will make such a difference to your business success in 2013.
Make an action plan – With the information you learned in our previous step, outline a solid plan of action to change things. Knowing is one thing, and of course, very important; but taking action is where the magic happens. For example, let’s say you had a teleclass that was not well attended. Review your process for things you might do differently next time. Write down ways to get more signups and discuss and brainstorm more ideas with your online support specialist to see how they can help.
Step out of your comfort zone and do something new – Be creative this year. One new idea might be to create a video series. When it comes to marketing, many do the same things over and over again; which can be a good thing if it’s working. However, even when it’s working you should step it up in the New Year, and a video series could be a great place to start. The reasons for incorporating video into your business are staggering. According to Mari Smith, the Facebook marketing guru, “Video is the fastest-growing digital content category; 85% of Internet users watch online video; and, there will be 73.3 million mobile video viewers during 2013; up 20% in 2012.” With those stats, how can you not want to start a video series?
When producing your video, be thinking of even more creative ways to do more videos and incorporate them into your marketing plans for the year. Here are just a few examples: First, you can offer a video series as an opt-in bonus for those who sign up for your ezine. A series of 3 to 10 or 15 videos can be a huge selling point. Just make sure to add value with each video. You can offer videos on new products to explain them in more detail by breaking down the benefits. And of course, you can offer how-to videos that showcase your expertise. But even here, go beyond the obvious and dig deep into areas you alone might know more about than others by providing some of your inside secrets.
Get organized – That means filing away all of your files from the previous year and starting with fresh new folders for 2013. Many of you already do this, but don’t stop there. Organize the folders on your computer, too. Create new folders naming them with the year 2013. Why search through a folder with hundreds of documents in it, when instead you can start anew and each year have your folders divided by the year. It’s such a great feeling to start fresh and begin the New Year so organized!
Develop a monthly marketing calendar – A weekly calendar would be even better, but at a minimum, develop a monthly calendar highlighting your projects and plans. Be mindful of holidays and also your target audience. This is especially important because your target audience may have events that don’t fit the standard calendar schedule; events such as conferences and seminars designed exclusively for them. As a speaker or coach, this is especially effective because you can work these events into your marketing strategy and get more speaking engagements and coaching opportunities.
