We are all familiar with Bit.ly, the slick tool marketers and business professionals can use to mask affiliate links or shorten long urls. But did you know there is a way to shorten urls and help people at the same time?
Bit.ly and the American Red Cross have teamed up to create Hope.ly, a creative way to shorten links and help those in need at the same time. Bit.ly offered to team up with the Red Cross in hopes of duplicating the success of the hugely popular Ice Bucket Challenge connected to A.L.S. Association.
Users simply enter a link, shorten it and then share it via t heir social media or other business channels. The shared pages will include a small ribbon to invite additional donations. Once the Hope.ly link is clicked, it reveals what resembles a banner ad atop the page, proclaiming, “Someone wonderful shared this page — to help people in need through the American Red Cross.”
The hope behind Hope.ly is that if more people are given the option to donate, it will be instrumental in raising funds and spreading a little extra hope to those in need.
