Spring has finally sprung here in Central Ohio! Hopefully, it will continue on and not spring back to winter weather like a bungee cord! Which brings me to the topic of spring cleaning!
Spring cleaning is a time to scrub up, tidy up and freshen up all that has become old and stale during the long winter months. Did you know your business could use a bit of “spring cleaning” as well?
Here are 4 things you can do right now to tidy up your business and online presence.
Tidy Up your Site: Make sure WordPress has been updated to its most recent version, as well as your theme and all of your plugins. Those nasty hackers keep busy trying to gain access to your website and wreak havoc, so keeping your theme and plugins up-to-date help keep your site safe and sound. Also, too many plugins (including inactive ones) slow down your website, so it’s always a good idea to delete any plugins that aren’t active while you’re in there.
Change All Passwords: Again, those blasted hackers and scammers are still going strong and haven’t slowed down a bit. It doesn’t look like they will be anytime soon either, so it’s more important than ever to change all of your passwords on a regular basis. NOTE: When choosing a password, please avoid using easy ones such as “123456” or “password.” Those are ridiculously easy for hackers to break and could put your valuable info at risk. Don’t forget the passwords for your web host, all social media platforms and even your email. As annoying as it is to have to keep changing your passwords on a regular basis, it’s much better to be safe than sorry. I’ve got a to-do set up in Todoist to reset my passwords on a recurring basis – so it’s easy to remember.
Google Yourself: When was the last time you did a search of your name and business in Google to see what pops up? You might actually be surprised if you’ve never done it before. I’ve had some good surprises, but also not-so-good ones. Is there old information connected that needs to be updated? Are there negative comments, complaints or bad reviews that need to be addressed? To stay on top of your brand and business name, set up Google alerts to monitor anything being said about you or your business. When was the last time you did a search of your name and business in Google to see what pops up?Click To Tweet
It’s a Match: Last but not least, make sure your spring “look” is cohesive across the board. For branding purposes, it’s recommended you use the same profile picture and information across all of your accounts. When your branding is consistent, your marketing efforts will go farther because your audience will often see your content on the web or social media and know it’s yours because they recognize the “look” of your brand! It just dawned on me that my website and newsletter template have an older photo of me and not the one I’m using everywhere else. Correcting that is my next spring cleaning action!
