Just like your physical health, your business health is important. But having a healthy business requires a lot of work on your part, and also involves making some tough decisions from time to time.
Be the CEO of your business. When things get tough, sometimes you just have to put on your big girl (or big boy) panties and deal with it.
In a previous post I talked about how important it is to SEE yourself as the CEO of your business. Today’s post is about how important it is to ACT like the CEO of your business. And that means sometimes you have to man up (or girl up). You just have to put on your big girl panties and deal with it! You’re probably wondering what this has to do with marketing, but to be perfectly honest, it has everything to do with marketing. Because if you’re not settled in as the CEO of your business, you are NOT going to be marketing effectively.
It doesn’t matter what industry we are in – speakers, coaches, service providers, you name it. As business owners, we are guaranteed to have situations pop up from time to time that can effect our business health in a negative way. Sometimes it’s not a big deal. Other times, however, they are things that make us want to crawl into a hole and wait until they resolve themselves or just disappear on their own. There is no end to the many ways your business health can be impacted. Client issues, team issues, money issues, you name it. But when everything is said and done, it’s our business, we’re the CEO, and it’s our job to deal with whatever comes up.
If you have a client or customer who continues to overstep boundaries, doesn’t pay on time (or at all), or treats you or a team member in an unacceptable way you’ve got to either talk to the client and address the issue or let them go. It’s the same with a team member. If you have a team member not pulling their weight, continuing to make the same mistakes time after time, or one that isn’t taking care of a client the way they should, it has to be handled. Talk to the team member or let them go. Did you make a big mistake and now have an angry or unhappy client or customer? Handle it. Do whatever it is you need to do to make it right.Sometimes in business you've just gotta put on your big girl panties and deal with it!
These are just a few of the things we have to deal with as business owners, and I’m sure they don’t even scratch the surface. No matter what comes up or how difficult it might be, the point still is … it’s our business. We are the CEO. We just need to put on our big girl panties and deal with it like the big kids 😉
