Another new year is upon us! As a business owner, what will you do to close out 2015, get organized and tidy up the current year with a neat little bow?
First piece of advice I can give is this; don’t wait until the end of the year to try to get organized! Organization is something that needs to be worked on all year long to prevent the mad scramble for end-of-the-year documents with a side order of “now where did I put those receipts?” It’s much better to work on getting your office and business organized and staying there, all year long. However, if you’re one of those people whose attention to keeping things organized fizzled and failed around June or July, here are 3 easy tips to regain control:
Start Small: This process can depend on the size of your disorganization, but is also a good way to prevent overwhelm. Start with more manageable tasks like catching up on filing or shredding, or even just cleaning off the top of your desk. Block out Some Time: If your lack of organization has created a colossal mess that defies a “quick fix,” then it’s time to set aside some time to simply jump in and tackle the task at hand until it’s done. For those of you who argue that you can’t spare several hours, or even a whole day to get a handle on your organizational issues, keep in mind the health of your business depends on it. Adopt a “dig in and do” attitude and get started ASAP.
Put Systems in Place: With every New Year comes a fresh start. If your business organizing methods were an “epic fail” last year, the New Year is the perfect time to get some effective tools, processes and systems in place. Devise and identify ways to manage your paperwork, records, invoices and expenses as they come in instead of waiting until the end-of-year crunch.
