Yep … it’s true. Live streaming is here to stay. First came Periscope, then Meerkat, and now even Facebook has decided to enter the arena with it’s new live streaming option. Periscope, Meerkat and Facebook live streaming are all fine and dandy, but the one that interests me and gets me excited is Blab.im.
Why do I like it so much? The other three platforms are all a one-way experience. You stream while others watch and listen. Blab, on the other hand, is an interactive platform that allows you to do so much more. I’ve tuned in to a couple of people doing their thing on Periscope, but wasn’t really that impressed. It’s not that the info wasn’t good – because some of it was. I just wasn’t impressed with the platform. And to be honest, was a bit bored because people tend to go off on tangents about things. I’ve also tuned into a few Blab shows, and thoroughly enjoyed them. Sometimes, even if the content doesn’t sound that interesting, because of the interactive nature of Blab, it ends up being great! Being able to comment with others in the chat area, and being able to jump into an empty seat to add to the conversation makes Blab so much more interesting – for both the host, their guest if there is one, and the audience.Blab's interactive platform allows guests and viewers to join in for a more interesting show.Click To Tweet
If you’ve watched or joined in on a Blab show before, you know what I mean. If not, then let me explain. On the Blab platform, there are 4 seats. A seat for the host, and 3 other seats you can leave empty, fill with a scheduled guest (or two or 3), or invite anyone tuning in live to your show to join in. Having a Blab show is a great way to showcase your expertise, get the word out about your business, establish yourself as an expert in a specific topic, connect with others in your field, provide value and benefit to your target audience, you name it. Blab is connected to your Twitter account, which makes it super easy to promote your show and gain followers.
It’s a bit difficult to try and explain what a Blab show is all about, so if you’ve never heard of Blab or have never tuned in to a show, I highly encourage you to take a look at the types of shows on the air and see what they are all about. There are regularly scheduled shows on just about any business or personal topic you can imagine. Just go to Twitter (you’ll need to be on the actual Twitter site), type #blab in the search box and take a look at all of the great shows lined up that you can check out!
You’ll need to open a Blab account if you want to attend a live show or join in, but it’s super easy. Just go to Blab.im and follow the instructions. You can also download the Blab app for your phone. It’s available for both the Android and iPhone.
I’ve been yammering about starting my own Blab show for months now. (And I want to thank those in my Visibility Challenge group for being so patient with my wishywashyness. You can only use the “my hair’s a mess” excuse so many times, right?) I think I’m finally there! I’ve got my Blab channel set up … it’s the BizEase Blab, and even know what my first 4 topics are and who my guests will be. I’m just wading into the pool though and only committing to a once a month show. I totally respect and give props to those Blabbers who can do a show every week, and sometimes more often than that, but rather than jumping into the deep end, I’m going to start out slow and easy.
So, here I am committing myself. Yep … scary too! Right now my first Blab show is scheduled for the 2nd Thursday in February. Don’t know the time yet, but stay tuned and I’ll divulge the details soon 😉
