July marks yet another National Cell Phone Courtesy Month, and just to be sure we are all not turning into “that guy” or “that gal” with obnoxious phone habits, here is a short list of some common cell phone courtesy tips.
When present in meetings, events, presentations or even casual lunches, strive to be completely in tune to the conversations by turning your phone’s ringer on silent or leaving it in your car or at your desk.
Though bad connections happen, do your best to avoid “cell yell” when taking a call in public by speaking in your regular conversational volume. If you find the need to speak louder than usual, excuse yourself to a more private place to finish up the call.
Under no circumstances should you ever text and drive. Those who do are putting themselves and those around them on the road at risk. The same applies for any calls that affect your attention to the road. If you find yourself taking your eyes off the road or digging for files, it’s best to pull off the road to conduct business, or simply wait until you have reached your destination.
