With all the recent and ongoing changes being made to some of our favorite social media platforms, and the sheer volume of users trying to get their messages in front of their target market (let’s not forget the incessant tweaks to the all powerful algorithms a certain someone keeps making), it gets more and more difficult to be seen, connect, and build relationships on social media.
Or does it?
As you all know, I attended Social Media Week Lima again this year. The speakers were awesome, and you’ll be hearing about some of my favorites here on my Thursday blog posts.
One of the presenters, Demian Ross, spoke about Analog Marketing. The actual title of his session was Analog Marketing: Bringing the Human Back in Human Connections.
Wow! Imagine that? Connecting with people as humans instead of businesses?
The theme of the conference this year was the human experience, and some of the things he shared made a lot of sense to me.
I wrote down 5 of them!
- As marketers, we need to entertain and educate consumers simultaneously.
- Take 15 minutes every day to create content of some kind. Take a photo, do video, write a blog post, etc.
- Be YOU!
- Share stories about yourself.
- Take whatever you are are doing in an analog space and do it in your digital space! Take what’s real in your life and THAT’S what you put on Facebook and social media.
So if you’re wondering what to post on social media, or having difficulty “connecting” and engaging with people, take a look at what you’re putting out there. Are you all business and business content, or are you sharing “you” with your audience? Are you connecting on a personal level and showing your audience the real you and getting to know them as human beings, not just business owners or brands?Connect on a personal level and show your audience the real you!
If you’re all business and not letting your contacts see the real you and get to know you personally, you need to reevaluate your approach and start letting them see more of you, your humanity.
People build relationships with people. Not businesses. Not brands. Let’s put the social back in social!
