A few days ago I published an article that talked about Gmail’s newest feature which automatically filters the emails in your inbox.
This change has some business professionals up in arms, but many are applauding this greater control over incoming emails. Here’s a look at some of the pros and cons of this new system.
PRO: Better control of your Gmail inbox. For many busy professionals, their inbox becomes a monster runnin’ wild, which leads to quickly skimming what they deem important, the rest gets lost in Never-Never Land, never to be read at all.
CON: Many online marketers and businesses worry that the emails their readers have opted-in for will end up filed under “Promotions” along with ads, and potentially be ignored.
CON: This filtering can be confusing. Is the information you want under Primary? Is it under Social? Managing three tabs can seem cumbersome and frustrating until you create the filtering you need.
PRO: Both of the above CONS are “fixable.” If you’d prefer the most desired emails, updates, and newsletters to end up in your Primary tab, simply drag and drop emails to the correct place to help Gmail “learn” where you need your information to be. Educate your readership to do the same.
