So what makes a good ezine or newsletter? We all know content is king, right? So that’s the first thing. You need to make sure your content is material others want to read. Secondly, and just as important, is design. The design of your ezine should be visually appealing and inviting so when others see it, it draws them in. But it doesn’t stop with content and design. Let’s take a closer look at ways to get more out of your email marketing campaigns.
Tips for better email marketing campaigns:
Great Content – What you write is important, so you need to keep it compelling and interesting. One mistake many make, especially if they are trying to send their out their ezine on a consistent basis, is to have stale or overused content. It’s easy to get in the “same ole,’ same ole’” rut where you’re sending out the same old information over and over again. Stop before it’s too late and you start losing subscribers. Take the time to review your topics and look over your ezine on a regular basis so you can be sure the content is fresh, and always something that would interest both you and your audience.
Design: Make it pop – Be a little bold and brighten up your newsletter. Sometimes something as simple as a new color scheme will do wonders to attract your reader’s attention. Even updating your profile picture, or something similar, can make a big difference. Perhaps you can try adding new images to your articles or tips. Just do something that will leave a lasting impression on those who read it. You know your target audience best; so keep that in mind.
Stay Organized – When considering the design of your ezine, keep in mind that readers want to feel a sense of familiarity so they feel connected to you. They appreciate being able to find what they need by looking in the same place every time. For example, have you ever gone to your favorite store and found that they had rearranged everything? It throws you off for a bit, doesn’t it? That’s how it can be with your newsletter. If your readers have to constantly look for things they will eventually lose interest; so try and keep things organized and in a similar place. Now this isn’t to say you can never change it up. You certainly can. Just don’t go overboard, and keep the regular information, like your articles, in the same place. Don’t make people go out of their way to find what they’re looking for.
Showcase new tech tools and gadgets – Want to keep people engaged? Then continually give them what they need. Many don’t have time to spend doing a lot of research to find the cool new tools out there. And with technology constantly changing, people want to stay up-to-date and in the know. You might want to consider adding a “cool tool” or “tip of the week” section to your existing newsletter, or change it up completely like we did when we realized people just weren’t interested in what we were sending out. We changed it up so now our ezine is short, sweet and easy to read. Our new and improved ezine is a tip or resource that readers can read in about 2 minutes or less, and will help our readers run their businesses more easily and effectively. I can’t tell you have many emails we get from our readers letting us know how much they love the new format and the great information! Some new ideas for your own cool tips could include Twitter and Facebook tips, getting the most out of your CRM, new apps for your favorite digital device, the benefits of using Ring Central … you get the picture.
Call to action – Just as having a call to action is important for your media publications, it’s also important in your email marketing. If there is something you want your readers to do, then spell it out. Do you want them to go to your website and sign up for your new coaching program? Do you want them to buy the book you just mentioned? Or how about signing up for your upcoming teleseminar or webinar? Whatever it is, make sure you let them know what you want them to do, and also make it easy for them to do. Always include a link to take them directly to your sales page if there is one. (And make sure the link is correct.) You don’t want to oversell, but you do want to promote. Most readers expect some promotions in a newsletter. However, sending out an ezine with nothing but promotions and no content will turn people away and they will unsubscribe.
