I’ve been hearing a lot about Facebook retargeting pixels. I knew it had something to do with ads on Facebook, but didn’t really understand what it did (or how easy it was to set up) until I checked into it.
What is retargeting in general?
According to ReTargeter.com, “Retargeting, also known as remarketing, is a form of online advertising that can help you keep your brand in front of bounced traffic after they leave your website. For most websites, only 2% of web traffic converts on the first visit. Retargeting is a tool designed to help companies reach the 98% of users who don’t convert right away.”
Retargeting pixels for Facebook really come in handy for retargeting people after they have visited your website. The pixel gathers all the information about you/your business except for your name and email address, and is very easy to set up.[clickToTweet tweet=”Use Facebook’s retargeting pixel to anonymously ‘follow’ your audience all over the Web.” quote=”Use Facebook’s retargeting pixel to anonymously ‘follow’ your audience all over the Web.”]
To create a Facebook retargeting pixel:
- Open up your Ads Manager in Facebook
- Go to tools, Pixels
- Create a pixel = give it a name, agree to the terms, click on create
- Send the code to your web designer or yourself if you’re going to do it. Just click on the code, copy to grab the code, click setup and done.
The code will look like this:
To make sure your pixel is tracking after installing it, you can install the Facebook Pixel Helper Chrome extension.[clickToTweet tweet=”Use the pixel helper extension in Chrome to ensure your Facebook retargeting pixel is tracking!” quote=”Use the pixel helper extension in Chrome to ensure your Facebook retargeting pixel is tracking!”]
To install your pixel on your WordPress website:
- Go to plugins
- Add new and search for Facebook Conversion Pixel, or Facebook Pixel by PixelYourSite-Standard Events and WooCommerce (I installed this one)
- Open plugin
- Add your Pixel ID = Facebook.com/ads/adsmanager, tools, pixels
on the right side you’ll see your pixl ID (keep it secret). It’s also in code. It’s the long number you’ll see twice in the code. Add to the plugin page. I’ve highlighted where you’ll find your pixel ID in the image above. Don’t share your ID with anyone … of course I’ve changed mine in the image.
To check and make sure it’s installed – in the upper left corner of your website click on “”visit site,” and if you have your pixel helper installed it will show a green 1 in the top left corner of your browser, and show that you have it installed.
That’s it! Now whenever someone on Facebook visits your website, your retargeting pixel will do its thing![optin-cat id=”6373″]
