If you’re reading these words on the day this article was published on my blog, guess what? I am out of the office right now. I’m off the grid, taking a break, and enjoying some time just for me. Aaaaaaaah.
This is sometimes unheard of for an entrepreneur; to just pick up and go. Who looks after the business while the business owner is gone? What if an issue arises? What if something goes wrong? What if heaven forbid someone needs me?
Well, guess what? Everyone needs a break now and again, including those of us who are in business for ourselves. We might actually need it more than others! So what’s the answer to this very real dilemma? Systems and processes!Everyone needs a break now and then. Is your business set up so you can take one?
I’ve let all my clients know I’ll be out of the office, and my team members will keep things humming along while I’m away, so at BizEase it will be business as usual. This happens because I’ve built my business to support my lifestyle, by putting systems and processes in place for exactly this reason. I want to be able to take time off to enjoy the fruits of my labor!
After all, I went into business for myself, so I could be in control of my own schedule. Putting specific systems and processes in place let’s me do that! What’s the point of that if I never take time off?
Do you have systems in place in your business? Are you running things via strategically designed systems and processes? Or are you manually doing everything yourself?
The following are some things you can do today to start systematizing your business, so you can take some well-deserved (worry-free) time away from work:
- Design an editorial calendar. One of the first things you should do when you’re getting ready to systematize your business processes is to create an editorial calendar, so you know what content must go out, and when.
- Write blogs and social media ahead of time. If you can see from your calendar what content you’ll need when, rather than leave it all to the last minute, write it ahead of time and schedule it when it’s needed. Just like I did with this blog post you’re reading! What a huge time saver!
- Schedule your social media in advance. There are many tools out there that will let you schedule your social media updates in advance. I like to use Hootsuite, but take a look and see which one will best suit your needs. Then just set it and forget it!
- Schedule your newsletter in advance. Like blog posts and social media, I also schedule my newsletter ahead of time. All your email marketing platforms will let you do this. Scheduling your newsletter (and other email blasts or broadcasts) ahead of time, allows you even more freedom to take some well-deserved time off! Which brings me to my next item…
DELEGATE! Find a team of trusted professionals who can do all of this for you! When I go away, I don’t worry about my emails. Or my blog. Or my social media. I don’t worry about my clients. I don’t worry about anything, because my team has my back. If you don’t know what that feels like, you would benefit greatly from taking a look at available options, and getting in touch with a team like mine.
