When you go to a web site, and a video starts playing, do you just ignore it and move on? Doubtful. Most people watch it, and unless it’s really, REALLY bad, they watch it to the end! (And even then, most people will still finish watching it!)
That is called engaging your visitors, and nothing does that better than multimedia. In a sterile, online world, audio and video let you connect with your existing (and potential) clients much faster than via text and image. How much of a connection to the owner of a business do you feel by just looking at a still picture and reading some words?
Now, how much connection do you feel when you see excitement on someone’s face, hear sincere passion in their voice, and recognize authority in their words? You feel like you’ve just met them and have an insight into who they are and what their personality is like. As opposed to selling a service or a product, the people posting these audio and video messages are SELLING THEMSELVES.
People do business with people that they LIKE, so give them an opportunity to know you and like you. If your product or service depends upon clients interacting with you, one tool you should NOT be without is a web cam. You need to let them see and hear you as soon as possible. Make a soul connection with them and invest some practical information that they can apply immediately. That method works much more effectively than making them read through pages of information.
If you don’t feel comfortable in front of a camera, and your product or service doesn’t depend on working with you on a continual basis, most people absorb information much better through a combination of reading, listening and watching. A slide show video with words, images, and your voice, is a perfect and easy way to transmit the information you want them to receive.
Even if you simply put an audio recording near each product or service you have posted on your web site, you are creating a virtual sales person who can talk to people as they browse your offerings. All you need for that is a headset microphone (to get the best quality). You can get those at Radio Shack and Walmart.
Using multimedia to connect on your home web site is just one way to make new clients feel at ease, gives them a reason to stay and check out the rest of your site, and helps you create a soul connection to those that are looking for the answers that you may have.
