Content is super important when it comes to blog posts. You want to fill your blog with content that provides value and benefit to your audience. In addition to great content, you also want to make sure your post is visually appealing, and easy to read.
Here are some things you can do to add a bit of visual oomph to your blog so it IS visually appealing and easy to read.
Pictures and Images! Pictures and images are incredibly important when creating blog posts because they not only break up the monotony of text, but make the blog posts so much more shareable on social media. According to the Buffer Blog, photo posts get 39% MORE interaction. Pull images to create custom graphics and graphic/quotes from legitimately free sites like WikiMedia, Unsplash and Morgue File, or purchase at a very reasonable price from places like BigStockPhoto. If you have a good eye with a camera, you can opt to use your own original photos. But don’t over-do it! While graphics will definitely spice up your posts, just remember “a little goes a long way.”
A balance of 1-2 images per 500 word blog post looks professional and isn’t distracting to readers. One thing to keep in mind about graphics and pictures; always use reputable sites to find your images, and never, ever commit copyright infringement by copy/pasting or saving from the Internet.
Be Conversational and Authentic: Anyone who watches TV may have noticed a trend in the delivery of information. Commercials are using humor more, and the conversations between actors mirror real life trends and terminology. Content creators need to take a cue from TV and reflect that pattern in their writing as well. Gone are the days of readers tolerating blog posts with dry marketing facts and stats. Today’s readers want authentic, conversational straight talk from those they look to for guidance. The best way to approach this is to simply be yourself. You are who you are. Avoid the Slab: Today’s time-pressed reader is looking for quick, useful information when reading blog posts. Most people will scan content looking for information, rather than read word for word through thick sections of text. If at all possible, break your content into smaller, easy-to-digest paragraphs make your blog post content easier for readers to absorb, and keep them engaged from the first sentence to the last. Adding a Click-to-Tweet to your post like I have above, is not only a great way to break your text into chunks, but also provides an easy way for your readers to share your content.
