It might seem like such a little thing, but a quick thank you when someone retweets your content or mentions you or your content on Twitter, can go a long way toward building relationships.
Building relationships on Twitter can be tricky. Unlike Facebook, Twitter isn’t a social hubub where you can have in-depth conversations or really get to know someone. I mean really, how much can you say in 140 characters or less?
You can still have conversations on Twitter. You can also build relationships on Twitter. However, the lifespan of a Tweet is about 1-2 hours (depending on the size of your network), so if you have a good number of followers, there may be a lot of missed opportunities to connect and have conversations with people.
If you want to be sure to get someone’s attention, you need to tag them “@Twittername” in a Tweet. What better way to get their attention and on their radar than to thank them for retweeting or mentioning your content! With so much noise on Twitter, and Tweets flying by at what seems to be the speed of light, Tweets with large images or graphics will help your tweets stand out and be seen. A fun way to thank people for their retweets and mentions is to add a GIF or image to your thank you. As silly and trivial as it may seem, it works.
Make it a habit to take 5 minutes out of your day to log into Twitter and check your mentions so you can respond to questions or comments, and thank people for retweeting your content! Add a cute GIF or image to catch their attention (and the attention of others), and share a little love with those who are sharing your content. Thank them, and make sure you take the time to share some of their content as well.[clickToTweet tweet=”Show your followers you appreciate their retweets and mentions!” quote=”Show your followers you appreciate their retweets and mentions!”]
When was the last time you thanked those who retweeted your content or mentioned you in theirs? If you can’t remember, then it’s been too long!
