I read something in my social media travels last week that really struck me. It was a Facebook post made by an acquaintance who had just quit her job to pursue her passion. She said she was tired of working to support someone else’s dream when she could be using that time to support her own.
That got me thinking … are you doing work you love? Or have you sacrificed your dream along the way? Either by working with clients you don’t truly resonate with, or by doing tasks that detract (rather than add to) your joy?
I figured this out myself a few years back when I made it a rule to only work with speakers and coaches who need online marketing and PR support. A few other services may filter in once the clients are on board and with us for a while, but their biggest pains and needs are in the realm of online marketing. These are the types of clients I love working with, and the types of services I enjoy providing.
After all, the reason I started my business was to earn an income doing work I love, while helping support busy business owners … today, specifically speakers and coaches. I try to keep that in mind with each client I take on, each project I accept and each task or service my team completes, so I know I’m in alignment with my own personal beliefs, dreams and goals.
My clients usually fall into one of two groups:
- They need help marketing to attract the types of clients they want to work with
- They need help with the higher end, technical admin tasks to further grow their businesses
In both of these cases, I help business owners support their dreams.
Are you working toward your dream? Are you still doing the work that ignited your passion? Or has that fallen by the wayside?

Start attracting your ideal clients again! Find a marketing team that can help you turn time into money by taking care of all the things you are doing now that prevent you from doing the things you’re passionate about. Those things that prompted you to go into business in the first place (like speaking and coaching!).
Are you spending your valuable time on tasks you could be delegating? Get them off your plate so you can get back into the game and back on track with your dreams, doing work that truly matters to you.
What would happen if you had a team handling all of your online marketing tasks and services, and working with you to help you get closer to your dream by doing work that excites you?
Like that person on Facebook who spurred this dialogue in the first place, I know life is too short to support other people’s dreams without also supporting my own. How lucky am I that I’ve found a way to do both!
