November 23, 2020 By Terry Green

How confident are you in your digital marketing strategy? Or better yet, do you even have one?

If you aren’t sure how to get it right, you’re not alone. You don’t have to be a natural to have success in this area. You just have to learn how it’s done.

All your marketing on the internet should cultivate an eager awareness about your brand. Your fans should be excitedly awaiting your next video or blog post. This sort of attention might take time to develop and build, but it’s lucrative once you do.

Digital Marketing Basics

If you want to be great at digital marketing, you’ve got to master your content strategy first. Do you know what kind of content your fans want? Here are a few examples of content formats:

  • Industry-related Blog Articles
  • Video Blogs
  • Explainer Videos
  • Behind the Scene Photos
  • Interviews with Industry Pros (audio or video)
  • Memes and Jokes
  • Motivational quotes

While Memes and Jokes (and a few cat or dog photos) are great, your content should be about more than pure entertainment. Use it to reinforce your brand image in your audience’s mind.

The best way to do this is to pick two or three key words you want people to associate with your brand. Every video or blog post you create should reinforce at least one of these word associations.

Building Habits

digital marketingLike any other speaker or coach, you want to be the top brand in your niche. That means doing delivering quality text, photo, and video content on a regular, consistent basis.

Get your fans into the habit of viewing your content. If they know your brand maintains an active content schedule, they’ll start to anticipate and be on the lookout for it. Many small businesses achieve success by posting one new piece of content per week.

The Internet rewards speed and consistency. Become adept at delivering good content on a consistent basis if you want to win the digital marketing game.

How to Get Started with Digital Marketing

It’s not difficult to get started with digital marketing. Here are three steps to get you get you on the road to digital marketing success.

  1. Design Social Media Pages That Look Great and Provide Value and Benefit
Your brand’s social media pages can not only look great, but also be a great source of value and benefit. When done right, Social media profiles are an easy way to stand out from the crowd. Design graphic assets that fit the dimensions of each platform. This might take a little time to set up, but you’ll only need to do it once; and it’s more than worth it. People notice your attention to detail when you take the time to make your online presence look great.
  2. Set Up Your Content Strategy
Consistency is the top priority for your content strategy. Don’t get so ambitious you miss your goals. Create a realistic content schedule based on the resources you have available. Having said that, the more frequently you post good content, the better off you’ll be. How many times you post each day will determine on the individual platform. You can post multiple times a day on Twitter, while 1-2 posts per day on your Facebook page is best. Don’t forget to check your stats to see what time of day is best for your audience. If you’re just getting your feet wet, keep an eye on your schedule and aim to increase your posting frequency over time.

  3. Iterate and Experiment
You won’t get your social media strategy right on the first try. It takes time and experience to learn what your audience wants from you. It’s really all about experimenting and seeing what works and what doesn’t. Experiment with different kinds of content, different calls to action, and different times of day. You want to discover what works best for your brand on social media. Try at least one new idea each month until you figure out your most effective techniques.

You’ve got what it takes to be a great digital marketer. These tactics can be challenging, but don’t stop when it gets tough, or because you don’t see a ton of results all at once. If you are posting regularly, people will notice!

Keep at it and continue to work on your marketing strategy until you see the results you want.

Very true. You should always tailor your content and marketing to your specific audience. On the other hand, it’s also a good thing to be the real you and show your personality in what you do. Being real and being honest about who you are is an important factor in any marketing campaign. If you are fun-loving and outgoing in person, you should be that way on social media – depending on the platform. While you might be a lot more serious and business-like on LinkedIn, you can be more personal on Facebook or Twitter. When everything is said and done, I am my business, so I want people to see the real me in my marketing.
