It’s amazing to think back to my early days as a business owner when a fax machine was a required piece of office equipment. Can we even clearly remember a time before smart phones and Internet? Barely!
My business has evolved a great deal over the past 25+ years; especially when you consider I started out providing secretarial and resume services to local business owners, and now manage a team of online marketing specialists who partner with professional speakers and business coaches. Online marketing wasn’t even a thing when I started out!
As online marketers, we naturally need to keep up with trends happening in the digital world, which is sure to keep us on our toes. Today, I’d like to take a closer look at three trends I continue to see in the online marketing world. I suggest you start embracing these trends and injecting them into your own online marketing plan if you haven’t already done so.Wonder what online marketing practices are trending in 2019?
Create more video
If you’re still not using video in your marketing, you’re falling behind. Camera shy? No worries. Either get over it and put your face out there to show the world or make use of some of the other ways to use video that don’t require you to be a talking head – there are lots of options. If you don’t want to go the traditional video route, go live! With the ability to go live on almost all our favorite social media platforms, it’s super easy to jump in and try it out for size. Even LinkedIn has joined the “live video” stage— and that’s a place where video is really trending. The thing is, it’s 2019! There are lots of ways to use video if you get creative.
I do have one further note about using video in your marketing. Because videos are shared so much more than other forms of content, make sure you’re optimizing them for SEO. Add your keywords in your video titles, descriptions, and URLs whenever possible. You’ll get more bang for your buck that way.
Focus on engagement
So many people are secretly kind of tired of social media. Mainly because they are sick and tired of being marketed to day in and day out. We can see through the ads. We can see through the “clever” ploys for our money. That’s why, to really stand out in this noisy old world of social media, the more you listen, the louder that action speaks about you, and the more people will engage with you. Reach out to your community and ask questions. Share information and resources. Be a listening ear. Offer support and encouragement. Create engaging content. Promote resources and services that people in your audience might appreciate. Freely give your wisdom and knowledge. It will come back to you in spades!
Get more personal with email marketing
Again, people are tired of being sold to. Segment your list as much as you can so you can be personal in your messaging and speak as directly as possible to your audience. Also keep in mind that people are likely reading your messages on their phones. Be sure your emails are short, sweet and to the point—people like their information served in bite-sized chunks these days. Remember the type of content that enticed people to join your list, and give them more of that!
What do you think about these online marketing trends that seem to be hanging on? Have you added any of them to your online marketing? I’d love to hear about your experiences so please share!
